ABOUT LIZ
Hello! I’m Liz, a thoughtful non-fiction editor and proofreader for authors and businesses ready to make an impact.
My approach
If you’re looking for an editor who will transform your writing by making huge changes, that’s not me (but let me know so I can point you in the direction of another brilliant editor who can help).
My approach to editing is thoughtful and quiet. I work like this because your audience wants to hear what YOU have to say.
My why
My love of words and how they make a difference began over 20 years ago when I started studying for an MA in English Language and German at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. From there, it blossomed into a passion for helping others to share their expertise through clear, compelling writing.
Before starting my editorial business, I worked in English language teaching (ELT) in Australia. I was a specialist teacher and assessor, a teacher trainer, and a curriculum and resources writer. I also became qualified in the design of training and assessment materials for the workplace, so I know a thing or two about learning materials and course design.
My credentials and professional memberships
I’ve done editorial training with The Publishing Training Centre (and would highly recommend their courses to anyone looking for quality training) and the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP).
Training is the first thing I advise all new editors and proofreaders to do because it’s there that we learn how to work in a way that respect a writer’s voice.
I’m also an approved partner member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi) and a proud member of the Digital Marketing Collective.
Holding these memberships is my way of investing in my skills and keeping myself accountable so when I say I’m committed to doing a brilliant job for you, I really mean it.

My volunteer work
I’m the former deputy editor of the monthly membership magazine of the organisation, BAMBI – a non-profit parenting organisation supporting local and expatriate families in Bangkok, Thailand. It was a privilege to help so many people from around the world tell their stories through articles in the magazine.
I was later invited by the publisher to professionally sub-edit this magazine, and I’ve been enjoying that role since 2023.
What I love to edit
I have a few favourite subjects to work on, including mental health, disability, child development and self-development. The more accessible we can make these topics, the more we can learn about them, and the more inclusive we can be.
The most important thing I look for in a project is its purpose and the positive impact it will make on its audience.
I acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. I pay my respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
